Every city is shaped by the people who see what’s possible and are willing to get involved. For Vaughn Stevens, Grand Rapids is full of talented people, creative ideas and room for people to move forward.
Stevens, owner of VS2 Photography LLC, grew up in the Boston Square area and now lives in Kentwood. Through his photography work, he has connected with people and communities throughout Grand Rapids.
When asked what he loves about the city, Stevens points to one thing: opportunity.
“Opportunity plus good mindset is advancing,” he says.
He also wants people to recognize just how much talent exists in Grand Rapids. His advice? Get out, get involved and meet the people doing things in the community.
“There’s a lot of talented people out here,” Stevens says. “A lot of talented people you should get to know and get involved in stuff in the community to meet them.”
If he could change something about Grand Rapids, Stevens would focus on making it easier for people to tap into grants and other funding that can help bring their ideas to life.
For him, having programs available isn’t enough. People need to know what’s out there, understand how to apply and have a fair shot at accessing the resources.
Stevens sees plenty of talent and ideas in Grand Rapids. He believes the next step is connecting more people with the support they need to turn those ideas into something real.
