For Greg Morris, better known as Greg So Funny, Grand Rapids is more than a place to do business. It’s a city full of culture, creativity, talent and people who are constantly creating something new.
Morris is an entrepreneur, event host and owner of Grand LaFoy Event Planning. Through his businesses and involvement in local events, he has made it his mission to help bring people together and shine a light on what Grand Rapids has to offer.
“There’s always something to do in Grand Rapids,” Morris says. “People always say there’s nothing to do in Grand Rapids, but it’s always something to do.”
What he especially loves is the city’s deep arts and cultural scene. For Morris, that culture extends far beyond traditional art.
“It’s a real deep artsy culture from different platforms of art, not just pictures or painting, but also music and just love, man. I love it.”
Morris also believes Grand Rapids is a city made up of many different cities, communities and experiences. People bring their histories and cultures with them from places like Muskegon, Detroit and cities across the country, creating something uniquely Grand Rapids.
“We’re a city inside of a city,” he says. “Someone is always from somewhere.”
But if Morris could change one thing about Grand Rapids, his answer comes down to one simple idea: love your city.
“There’s so many things here to support, so many things that we can do here, so many talents,” he says. “We have so many business owners, man. Just love Grand Rapids, love on Grand Rapids and support Grand Rapids, especially in the inner city.”
For Morris, supporting Grand Rapids means recognizing what is already here—and showing up for the people, businesses, artists and entrepreneurs who continue to build it.
His message isn’t complicated: If we want Grand Rapids to thrive, we have to love on it.
