In an era where music is constantly evolving, jazz is finding new life in unexpected places—and at the heart of this resurgence is a wave of passionate creatives reshaping the genre. I recently sat down with Blair Brown, a prominent booking agent for jazz artists and the dynamic host of The Fuse Radio Show based in Raleigh, North Carolina, to talk about the state of jazz in 2025.
When asked about jazz today, Brown lit up with enthusiasm.
“Jazz has experienced a beautiful resurgence in recent years,” he shared. “It’s being fueled by a new wave of young musicians who are truly passionate about the craft. It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch the genre find its way back into the mainstream.”
According to Brown, what makes this moment in jazz so exciting is the fearless fusion of styles that younger artists are bringing to the table. Tradition isn’t being tossed out—it’s being reimagined.
“Artists today are skillfully blending traditional jazz elements with modern influences—from hip-hop and soul to electronic and global sounds,” he explained. “This fusion has not only revitalized the genre, but it’s also captured the attention of younger audiences who are eager to explore jazz in fresh, contemporary ways.”
Blair’s insight is both hopeful and grounded in experience. As someone actively shaping the careers of emerging jazz talent and curating soundscapes for radio listeners every week, he has a front-row seat to the movement. And if you ask him, jazz isn’t just back—it’s evolving, thriving, and more vibrant than ever.
