As I build the Grander Reads section, I want it to be more than a collection of book recommendations. I also want to highlight books that are part of my personal library—books that have influenced the way I think about business, media, branding, and opportunity. Areva Martin’s Make It Rain is one of those books.
Make It Rain is an empowering look at turning your passion, knowledge, experience, and personal brand into opportunity. Martin explores entrepreneurship, financial independence, branding, and the importance of understanding how to position yourself in a crowded marketplace.
One of the things that makes this book particularly relevant today is its discussion of social media and visibility. In a world where everyone has a platform, simply being good at what you do isn’t always enough. You have to understand how to present yourself, build relationships, create opportunities, and position your voice where people are already paying attention.
That message extends well beyond social media. Whether you’re trying to get featured on a website, interviewed by a news station, invited onto a radio program, featured in a magazine, or connected with another influential platform, positioning matters. You have to know what you bring to the table, understand the value of your story, and recognize when an opportunity is developing.
That’s one of the lessons I take from Make It Rain: success isn’t always about waiting for someone to discover you. Sometimes it’s about putting yourself in the right position so you can be discovered. And when the door opens, you have to know when—and how—to strike.
For Grander Reads, this book represents more than entrepreneurship. It represents the mindset behind building something of your own. It is about recognizing your value, understanding the power of your story, using media and social platforms strategically, and turning connections into opportunities.
Your passion has value. Your story has value. Your platform has value. The key is knowing how to position all three—and then making it rain.
