The Navy is in the process of working to rename an aircraft carrier that is under construction that was slated to be named the USS Doris Miller a Ford-class carrier. It was set to honor this Black sailor for his heroic actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During Trump’s first term, the Navy said the Ford-class carrier would be named after Doris (Dorie) Miller to recognize an enlisted sailor who helped defend US forces from Japan’s attack. Now, inside sources say Trump wants his name on the carrier, thus the consideration. Really Donnie?!
Those of you who may not know the story of Doris Miller, let me briefly share some of it. He was a Black sailor during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
He was a messman second class, a servant, a cook, as this was the only position a Black man could serve in at that time in the Navy. The U.S. Army War College in 1925 produced a 67-page study claiming that Black men were mentally and psychologically inferior and unsuited for combat. They used this BS to justify segregation and restrict Black troops to non-combat roles until 1948 when the military became integrated by President Truman.
On that fateful day, Dorie Miller was aboard the battleship USS West Virginia as she was attacked. He carried wounded sailors to safety and operated an anti-aircraft gun, despite having no training, and shot down one plane officially. Miller and other eyewitnesses said it ranged from four to six. For his bravery under fire he received the Navy Cross, the first Black sailor to receive the Navy’s highest award, and was nominated for the Medal of Honor, something his family is still fighting for today. He died in 1943 in the battle of Makin.
Compare Doris Miller to draft-dodging, lying, military people are “Suckers and Losers”, Donald Trump. THERE IS NO COMPARISON!! The only thing Trump’s name should be on is an orange jump suit to match his complexion! Miss me with all that mess! Doris Miller loved this country enough to fight for it and die for it. Trump loves this country for what he can get out of it! Dorie Miller in times of calamity thought about his fellow shipmates, Trump in times of calamity only thinks about “how can I use this to benefit me?!”
The incident has not gone unnoticed, as pushback about this has arisen. “This is a slap in the face to every war hero and every service member who has worn the uniform”, said Derrick Johnson, president of the NAACP civil rights group. He adds, “Doris Miller earned his place in American History through courage, sacrifice, and service; Trump wants to serve himself.”
Derrick Johnson is right; Doris Miller has earned his place in American History for the reasons he stated. Trump has also earned his place in American History as well. He will be remembered as the most corrupt, lying, unfit, racist, sexist, president in the history of the United States!
So, don’t worry Donnie, you will be remembered, just not the way you want. Let’s face it, Trump never was and will never be a Dorie Miller, he has no honor or love of this country!
