Long before streaming algorithms, social-media playlists and music discovery becoming a numbers game, Tobin was putting in the work. Born in Mesa, Arizona, and raised in Southern California, she found her musical foundation in church before studying classical voice at Howard University and becoming part of the Howard University Chorale. Along the way, she shared stages with legends and developed the kind of musical education that can’t be manufactured in a studio.

Her résumé tells another part of the story. Tobin’s professional journey has included work connected to artists such as Jeffrey Osborne, Mica Paris, Chico DeBarge, Chanté Moore and Joe. She learned the business from the inside—sometimes standing in the spotlight, sometimes standing just outside of it.

Eventually, Tobin stepped forward to build a career of her own.

Her solo catalog, including Love Infinity, So Good to Me and Truth Is…, reflects an artist deeply rooted in soul, R&B, jazz and gospel. There is sophistication in her music, but never at the expense of feeling. Tobin doesn’t have to overpower a song to own it. Her voice knows how to settle into a groove, find the emotion and let the music do what it was meant to do.

And that’s what makes her story so interesting.

Teri Tobin isn’t some newcomer waiting to be discovered. She’s an experienced artist who has spent years building a body of work while navigating the frustrating reality that independent soul artists don’t always receive the radio exposure their talent deserves.

In 2026, however, Tobin is still creating—and she’s doing it with a concept that feels almost rebellious in the streaming era.

Her latest project, 45 Series – Vol. 1, released July 24, brings back the idea of the classic 45: an A-side and a B-side, two songs and two different ways into the artist’s world. “Vibe With You” takes the A-side, while “Inside Out (Alternate Mix)” occupies the flip.

It’s a simple idea, but one that carries some weight.

There was a time when buying a record meant more than pressing play. You listened to the single, then turned it over. The B-side could reveal something unexpected—a different mood, a different groove, sometimes even a better song. It encouraged people to dig deeper.

Tobin is bringing that spirit into the present.

“Vibe With You” leans into warmth and intimacy, while “Inside Out (Alternate Mix)” opens the door toward soul, house and dance. Together, the two tracks offer a reminder that great singers don’t have to live inside one musical box.

And maybe that’s the larger story behind Teri Tobin.

She has never really fit inside one.

She’s a vocalist shaped by gospel, trained in classical music, influenced by the greats of soul and R&B, experienced in the studio and still willing to experiment. Her career has taken her from the church to Howard University, from background vocals to her own recordings, and now into a new chapter where she’s reimagining an old-school format for a new generation.

So perhaps “undiscovered” isn’t the right word for Teri Tobin.

Maybe she’s simply underheard.

Because the music is there. The experience is there. The voice is there.

And while mainstream radio may not have introduced her to everyone, that’s exactly where Deep Cuts & B-Sides comes in.

Grander isn’t interested in simply telling you who everybody already knows.

We’re interested in finding the artists who deserve another listen—the records that slipped through the cracks, the voices that never received their proper spotlight and the music that becomes more interesting the deeper you go.

Teri Tobin belongs in that conversation.

She isn’t waiting for somebody to tell her it’s time.

She’s already making the music.

You just have to turn the record over. ~ Doug D. Sims
